How Less score works
One number that answers the only question that matters: is this actually a good deal? Ten signals earn points, a handful of penalties take them away, and commission is never part of the math.
How far today's price (with shipping) sits below the 90-day median. Full points at 25% below. Never measured against MSRP.
Where today sits between the 12-month high and low. At or below the low earns full points, scaled by the size of the drop.
Average rating, discounted by how much evidence backs it. 4.8★ from 50 reviews earns less than 4.7★ from 20,000.
Is the price real across the market? Rewards an edge over the median offer and other major retailers matching it.
How many days since it was last this cheap. A price not seen in a year is worth more than last week's.
Returns, fulfilment accuracy and history of honest pricing.
In stock with healthy inventory. Low stock earns partial credit; sold out earns none.
Share of positive votes, weighted by how many people voted.
Newer finds score slightly higher; prices go stale.
More reviews mean a more trustworthy rating.
Penalties
Up to −10, proportional to shipping as a share of price.
−4 when the best price needs Prime, Circle, Costco or similar and no one else matches.
−1 clip, −3 code, −6 rebate.
Up to −8 when the claimed “was” price is 20%+ above what it really sells for.
−6 under 500 reviews, −12 under 100.
−10 under 4.0 stars.
Anything 3% or less below typical is capped at 45, whatever else it has going for it.
Below 50, a listing never appears in rankings, JACKPOT or alerts as a “deal”. We still keep its page so you can check its price history.
We don't take a retailer's word for it.
Savings are measured from what a product actually sold for over the last 90 days, never from an inflated list price.
A huge discount on a weak product scores low. Ratings, review volume and retailer trust are part of every score.
Commissions are never an input to LESS SCORE or sorting. Sponsored placements are always labelled and kept apart.
Prices are re-verified constantly and by the community. When a deal ends, we say so.
Affiliate disclosure
atls may earn a commission when you buy through our links. That's how we keep the site free. Commission rates are stored for accounting only and are never read by the scoring or ranking code. A $20 commission on a bad deal can never outrank a $2 commission on a great one.
As an Amazon Associate, atls earns from qualifying purchases. We also work with affiliate networks such as Sovrn Commerce, Skimlinks and CJ.
Sponsored policy
Merchants can pay for a clearly labelled placement, shown in a dashed frame with the sponsor's name. Sponsored items are never mixed into organic lists, and their LESS SCORE is computed exactly like everyone else's.
Demo mode
This preview runs on a curated dataset of real, recognizable products with illustrative prices and simulated price histories, so every feature works end to end. Nothing labelled demo is a live offer. When retailer feeds are connected, the labels disappear and every price is live and verified.
Where prices come from
Retailer feeds, affiliate networks, product APIs, merchant feeds, direct integrations, community and editorial submissions. Each is a pluggable source adapter.
Match the same product across stores by GTIN/UPC, ASIN, model and MPN, with a variant guard so 55" never merges with 65" and 1TB never merges with 2TB.
Every observed price is stored and rolled up daily into history, so typical, lows and highs are ours, not the retailer's.
The deal engine scores every offer, the community verifies it, and editors review anomalies before anything is promoted.
